Born on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota in 1921, Wallace Black Elk was "called" to the sacred way of the "Chanunpa" when he was five years old. Eleven "grandfathers," or mentors, prepared him to use spiritual powers, to heal, and to help others. His collaborator on the book is a university professor who has studied and worked with Black Elk for twelve years. 1990.
